Vijayawada city police has imposed traffic restrictions on Bandar Road, due to Republic Day celebrations at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium.

Below are the diversions on Bandar Road

  • Vehicles coming from Auto Nagar and Patamata would be diverted at Benz Circle and should proceed via. Skew Bridge, highway, Bandar Lakulu, Governorpet-2 RTC Depot, Fire Station Office and reach PNBS and One Town.
  • Vehicles from PNBS and One Town towards Bandar Road, would be diverted at Raghavaiah Park to highway, Skew Bridge and Benz Circle.
  • Vehicular movement will be stopped from Red Circle to RTO Junction and from Shikamani Junction to Veterinary Hospital Junction.

Koneru Lakshmaiah University (KLU) conducted its fifth convocation at their campus at Vaddeswaram village in Guntur district on Saturday. The university presented degrees on 2,000 Ph.D, M. Tech, B. Tech, MCA, MBA, BBA and B. Com students. Gold medals were awarded to 15 PG and nine degree toppers. Silver medals were awarded to 15 toppers in PG and nine degree students.

Roots Health Foundation from Vijayawada, as part of its awareness campaign against cancer, is distributing ‘preliminary cancer screening scheme cards’. With Roots Health card, the cardholders can get expensive cancer screening tests done at very low prices. Roots Health Foundation has entered into tie-up with the Kamineni Group of Hospitals for a period of three years for the programme.

Under the scheme, preliminary screening tests that cost Rs. 3,000 for women will be done for Rs. 600, and tests that will cost Rs. 3,500 for men will be done for Rs. 800. The screening tests will be done at the same rate for three consecutive years for the card-holders. The tests include Mammogram and pap-smear will be done for women, and for men, the PSA blood test for prostate cancer will be done along with other tests

The programme is formally started at the Exhibition Society Office at Autonagar. Krishna district Zilla Parishad chairperson Gadde Anuradha has given away the cards to beneficiaries.

Dr. Vijaya Bhaskar, Chairman of Roots Health Foundation siad that, the hospital is doing regular screening tests for every 15 days at their hospital located at 10-09, Dhanekula Vaari Street, Lane opposite Ashok Nagar Bus Stop.

The annual State level management meet ‘Magnova-2016’ organised by BBM Students of the PB Siddhartha Arts and Science College, Vijayawada. The event is inaugurated by MLA Gadde Rammohan Rao. The event saw many youngsters taking part in the academic and extra curricular competitions. Approx. 200 students from various colleges in the city took part in various events.

Competitions like Young CEO, Marketing, Spell Bee and Finance were organised under the Category of Formal Events and Treasure Hunt, Co-ordinatus, Be the Creator were organized. The college students performed cultural programmes like dance and fashion show. Students from various colleges participated in the competitions. Prizes were given away by the organisers to the winners of all categories.

The first ever Fruit and Flower Exhibition is Started at Funtimes Club near Teachers’ Colony, Vijayawada today. Haritha Priya Plant Lovers Society has organized the first State level Fruit and Flower Expo 2016. The expo will be for three days till 26th January. The expo has displayed many varieties in spring flowers and fruits. Central Minister Sujana Chowdary and Andhra Pradesh DGP Ramudu inagurated the expo. Chief Minister Chandrababu Niadu is expected to visit the expo on January 26.

The expo is aimed to promote gardening and bringing up plants at home as a pass time for young and adults. Various competitions have been planned to engage every interested plant lover to take part in the event. Japanese flower decoration art Ikebena, Bonsai variety of fruit bearing and flower bearing plants, nurseries from Kolkata, Bangalore and Kadiyam are special attraction of the show.
