The long awaited Machilipatnam port is going to be a reality soon. Andhra Pradesh government has cleared the construction plan for the port and it is going to lay foundation stone for the port very soon.

The Machilipatnam will come up on public-private partnership (PPP), with a total cost of Rs.11,924 crores. The land pooling for 4,500 acres, will be started very soon.

The deep water port will have 26 berths. The construction of the port will be done in two phases. The first phase would be completed by 2018, where 15 berths will be ready. This can handle upto 45 million tonnes of cargo. The second phase would be completed by 2022, where it can handle 100 million tonnes of cargo.

The port will be designed to handle ship weight of up to two lakh tonnes. That will be the highest capacity for any port in the state. Vizag port can handle up to 1.7 lakh tonnes.

Navayuga group will take up the project in PPP mode. Guizhou International Investment Corporation (GIIC) of China is preparing the master plan for Machilipatnam port.
