"Venkamma  Tirunala" is well known for Rural Villages in Vijayawada. This is celebrated for three days in sankranti every year. Though the dates may change, but here at Ramavrappadu and Prasadmpadu villagers celebrate Bogi on 13th, Sankranti on 14th and Kanuma on 15th. This is the biggest event in Vijayawada, after Gunadala Matha Festival.

Devotees from the nearby villages visit the goddess "Venkamma Talli" on these three days and take her blessings. The annual festival is held during Sankranti. Devotees fulfill their mokku and do special poojas to their vehicles in these three days. The goddess is taken to uregimpu (procession), in Ramavarappadu and Prasadampadu for three days. After the procession, the goddess's image will go for teppotsavam in the canal. After the ceremony the idol of the goddess will be kept back in the Venkamma Perantalu temple.

To support Venkamma Talli's Identity with other perantalu and also goddess Lakshmi, her image is flanked by the images of Mahalashmi talli, and Vinukonda Venkamma Talli Idols on either side of Venkamma Talli.

The other attractive thing is the exhibition (Venkamma Tirunala). Many shops with toys, fancy items, balloons and others are attracting devotees. Play items like Giant wheel are attracting the children in the annual fete.

PVP Mall in Vijayawada have jumped in at the opportunity to create Sankranti feel in the mall. The mall is decorated with village feel, with huts, rangolis, gobbemalu and other things which we do at sankranti. True spirit of Sankranti was brought to life at PVP Mall. PVP Mall, is decoratedwith flying Kites, clay pots, golden grass, which is attracting the coustmers and visitors. The shopping establishments in the mall, are giving out special discounts and some are also oragnising contests and giving away attracting prizes. The visitors also taking photos and selfies infront of the setting.

Also a kite making workshop was held for children on Thursday for the age group of under 11 years. The material was given for free and students enjoyed in the competition. Other clubs, resorts, hotels and sweet shops in Vijayawada city are also decked up for the festival and doing their creative promotions.

South India Shopping Mall in Besant Road, Vijayawada decorated their premises with a village festive atmosphere. It was decorated with tiled roof at its entrance giving a rich traditional look as part of the Sankranti celebrations. Costumers have been attracted to this setup. This is an attempt to stay close to people and customers who click pictures and save as memories as part of their shopping.

Other commercial establishments in Vijayawada city also has come up with the festive themes and decorated their premises, attracting the visitors.

The Supreme Court ban on cockfights did not have any impact for people in different parts of the states. In Edupugallu, Krishna District, "Kodi Pandalu" are organized in a grand way. The place is spread around 40 acres, where around 500 cars and 1000 bikes can be parked. With Hi-Tech drone cams, walkie talkies, and other high-end equipment organizers and conducting the events. Even flood lights are placed to continue the betting at Nigh time. The stake in the initial round ranged from Rs 5,000 to Rs 1lakh and it even gone up to 3 lakh. The roosters of dega, kokkira, botla seethuva, rocked the show. Almost 50 rings are organized and the betting is expected to continue till Sunday.

Cockfights are also organized at other places in Krishna district like Yanamalakuduru, Ibrahimpatnam, Vanukuru, Gannavaram Vuyyuru etc..

VC ANU A Rajendra Prasad

Professor A Rajendra Prasad has been appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur. Mr.Rajendra Prasad is currently Dean, Student Affairs, and Principal of Andhra University College of Law. Andhra Pradesh State Government issued a GO in this regard.

Prof. Prasad has rich experience in academic and administrative fields. Born in Nellore on August 12, 1955, Prof. Rajendra Prasad did his BL. at Sri Venkateswara University, LLM in commercial laws from Nagpur University with a merit certificate and Ph.D. from AU in 1996.
