Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited started its high-speed wi-fi services, Jionet, for users at MG Road in Vijayawada. It was launched by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on the occasion of Jio Amaravati Marathon. People who are visiting MG Road in Vijayawada will be able to access internet through ‘Jionet’ WiFi network. The company claims that Jio 4G will deliver 10 times higher download speed and 4 times better upload speed compared to others.

Commenting on the event, Shri KS Venugopal, Regional Head- South, Reliance Jio said, “We are proud to be associated with Andhra Pradesh (AP) government’s vision of Digital AP. The people of AP will be able to experience the digital ecosystem that Jio is building. Jio is motivated to end the digital divide by bringing cutting edge (true 4G) technology to people from all sections of the society, to enrich and empower lives.”

To promote the brand image of Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh capital, an NGO DEEP organised the marathon, which is also supported by the Andhra Pradesh government. Keeping away the cold weather and holiday, thousands of enthusiasts turned up for the Jio Amaravati. A total of 6500 citizens participated in the event.

Ethiopian athlete Mikiya Yemmath stood first, as he completed the marathon in one hour five minutes. While Kenya's Samuel Kamua came second in the 'Jio Amaravati'. He completed the marathon in one hour six minutes. State boy B Srinivas from Vizianagaram came in third in the 21-kms half-marathon run, he completed the marathon in one hour seven minutes. Chief Minister N Chandra Babu Naidu distributed the prizes to the winners.

Guntur Collector Kantilal Dante was complimented by Chief Minister, who completed the half-marathon in 2 hours 10 minutes.

Earlier, Police Commissioner Goutam Sawang flagged off the half-marathon.

Later, Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu, AP Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr K Srinivas, Parliament member K Srinivas, state Director General of Police J V Ramudu and international chess player K Hampi flagged off 10 kms and 5 kms runs.

A large number of youth, senior citizens and women arrived in the city from across the country to participate in the run.

Students of Glasgow Kelvin College from Scotland and the Government Polytechnic for Women, Guntur have begun a joint global garment design training programme. The initiative has staged a Fashion Show, celebrating the outcomes of this unique Indian/Scottish programme.

It all began in the summer of 2015, when staff from the Fashion Design and Manufacture programme at Glasgow Kelvin College in Scotland visited the Government Polytechnic for Women in Guntur as part of a UKIERI – AICTE funded project promoting learning co-operation and skills exchange between the two colleges in fashion and garment design. One of the world’s leading authorities on Paisley Pattern, weaver Dan Coughlin, would be engaging with learners and staff at the Government Polytechnic about the history of the pattern.

On Friday, Students of Glasgow Kelvin College from Scotland and the Government Polytechnic for Women, Guntur has participated in a fashion show, which showcased the patterns of Paisley Design.

Bhavani Island had opened up a unique experience to enjoy the adventures sports. Para Sailing is introduced over River Krishna, which is a special attraction. A speed boat which can accommodate 12 persons will be used in Parasailing. Each one will be given a chance, in the middle of the river. The ticket for each person is Rs.900/-. People can glide through the air, wearing an open parachute while being towed by a motor boat in the river.

Goa-based Champions Yacht Club is organising this. It has also got permission to operate water sports in River Krishna at Bhavani Island

swarna bharat trust Gannavaram

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate Swarna Bharat Trust (SBT) at Atkur near Gannavaram on January 10th. It is the second chapter of Swarna Bharat Trust. The first one is in Nellore district.

The new Swarna Bharat Trust has been built in 80,000 square feet space. The Swarna Bharat Trust, Vijayawada chapter is being headed by president Mandava Prabhakar Rao and secretary Chukkapalli Ramakrishna Prasad. Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas, G. Viswanath and P. Sumant are local trustees, according to chapter Director D. Paradesi.
